I believe what you are seeing is the pistol being holstered, but the shotgun model being brought out too early, which makes a kinda weird effect, this should only happen when you are switching from a pistol to any other weapon, such as the shotgun, I recommend just quick-switching to unarmed and then switching to any other gun manually, it is still pretty fast.
